Practicums


 

Theresa Andoh has a bachelor’s degree in Community Nutrition from the University for Development Studies. Upon graduation she worked as a teaching assistant at the Nutritional Sciences department at the University for development studies before going on to pursue MPhil in Nutrition at the University of Ghana where she is currently a second-year student, Theresa is a registered and knowledgeable nutritionist who is interested in global health issues and as a nutritionist, she an advocate for proper child and maternal nutrition, to help eradicate malnutrition and its related issues and provide nutrition services to all.

Theresa has a passion for research and aims to expand her research skill through this internship program.

 

 

Charity is a 2nd year MPhil student at the University of Ghana and a graduate of the University for Development Studies (UDS) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Nutrition. Through the University’s third-trimester practice program (an 8-week stay in a designated rural community), Charity developed a passion for developmental work.

Charity is an active member of her church’s youth ministry where she serves as the head of the Strategy Department.

She loves to impart her knowledge in nutrition and is a firm believer in preventive health care through good nutrition.

 

 

Emmanuella Ohene-Twum is a Midwife currently studying MPH Maternal and child health at the James Lind Institute. She would love to live in a world where women and girls are able to reach their fullest potential through making informed decisions especially related to their sexual and reproductive health. She is currently learning to be able to empower women and children. Her hobbies include learning anything new, singing, and watching movies.

She believes that everyone is capable of doing anything they set their minds to.

Babbel Agbinko-Djobalar 

Having recently graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School, Babbel Agbinko-Djobalar is a young medic who has a keen interest in research. He aspires to be a neurologist and hopes to improve the lives of people through the outcomes of clinical research. He is currently waiting to commence his housemanship.

Akosua Agyei

Akosua Agyei is a recent graduate of University of Ghana where she studied Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery. She ventured into research first in school and found out her love for it. She aims to expand her research skills from this project. She has a passion to work with children and looks forward to doing so with this project. She plans to become a pediatrician and go into part-time research. After this research project she'll start work as a junior doctor in a government health institution and eventually enrol in a public health master’s program.

Arlene Beyeh

Arlene Beyeh has a Bachelors's Degree in Nursing from Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Espoo, Finland.  Upon graduation, she worked as a Registered Nurse for many years,  before moving on to pursue a Master's in Public Health program at Oakland University where she is currently a second-year student. Arlene is interested in Global Health issues, and working as a community health nurse. For her practicum, Arlene will be working on the Children in All Policies (CAP2030) Project, which aims at putting children at the center of all policies and sustainable development plans by 2030, as well as building a future for the world's children by advocating for their current and future health and wellbeing.

Lena Warrak

Lena Warrak is a second year MSPH Social and Behavioral Interventions student, also completing a certificate in Vaccine Science and Policy, at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Lena has a B.S. of Public Health Science and a B.A. of Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture from the University of Maryland. Lena is also the co-founder of a 501C3 non-profit organization, called Rommy’s Charitable Organization (RCO) that she and her mom started in honor of her brother Rommy who passed away in 2016. RCO sponsors 110 orphans, children, and refugees, as well as 20 refugee families, with their food, health, medical needs, education, and psychosocial well-being in Zarqa, Jordan. Lena hopes to continue doing work with refugees, child health development, and vaccine program implementation internationally in her career. She is currently on the CAP2030 team working to put children at the center of policy-making in Ghana in order to help children achieve the best outcomes in their futures.

Khalida Saalim

Khalida Saalim is responsible for coordinating CLCD’s COVID-19 in West Africa Media Analysis project. She is a recent graduate of Georgetown University’s Global Health program. She is most passionate about sexual and reproductive health rights and access. Her undergraduate research at Georgetown focused on women’s perceptions of postnatal care attendance in Dodowa, Ghana. Khalida is presently pursuing her master’s degree at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. From this project, Khalida aspires to gain key leadership, qualitative research, and academic writing skills. After the project and upon receiving her master’s degree, she hopes to continue her work in public health research through working with non-governmental organizations to expand women’s rights globally and to eventually enroll in a Ph.D. program.

Emily Morrison

Emily Morrison is a junior at the University of South Carolina. She is a biological sciences major and criminal justice minor from Lexington, South Carolina. Her long term career goal is to become an epidemiologist focusing on rare infectious diseases. Emily is working our COVID-19 in West Africa media analysis project as a research assistant. Her research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, parasitic infectious diseases and primary amebic meningoencephalitis.

Avery Westendorf 

Avery Westendorf is a senior at the University of South Carolina pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a minor in Medical Humanities and Culture. She plans to get her master’s degree in Global Health and Infectious Disease Epidemiology. She loves to travel and hopes to work abroad doing research. Currently, Avery is working as a research assistant on the COVID-19 in West Africa Media Analysis project.

Fatema Tuz Zohra

Fatema Tuz Zohra completed her graduation in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Bangladesh Dental College, University of Dhaka. In her undergraduate research, she conducted a cross-sectional study on poor oral hygiene among the urban population of Bangladesh. 

She is now a student in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at Oakland University. Currently, she is working as a research assistant on the COVID-19 in West Africa Media Analysis project. From this project, she expects to achieve experience on collaborative research, new software skills, and academic writing skills. Her research interests include Infection control, cancer prevention, maternal and child health and global health. Her long-term goal is to pursue her PhD and work as a medical researcher.

Atoysha Bassene

Atoysha Bassene holds a Bachelor’s in Health Science from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She is currently a second-year graduate student at Oakland University where she is majoring in Public Health. Her interest in Public Health began while vacationing in West Africa. Atoysha aspires to pursue a career in global health and epidemiology to improve the health of vulnerable populations. She is assisting Dr. Kwame Sakyi in researching and analyzing West African media reports on COVID-19. In her free time, she enjoys travelling, reading, and spending time with her family.
